Location & History

Neighbouring Clayhall, Chigwell and Gants Hill Is Barkingside. With its bustling High Street and excellent Central Line tube link into London. 1930s housing stock is plentiful as are modern purpose-built flats.

• Queen Elizabeth II Barkingside Recreational Park – a well used site with a strong local history in sport. Ken Aston, the founder of the red card system in football, is associated here; a memorial bench is sited in the park. Cricket is also historical at the ground and the challenge is supported by a nomination by the resident cricket club (Ilford Catholic Cricket Club), which have played at the recreation ground since 1948. Moreover, the recreation ground also has a play area and has recently had a “natural” playground and outdoor gym installed.
• Fairlop Waters Country Park – Just next to Barkingside is the largest country park and leisure facility in the London Borough of Redbridge. With accessible pathways for all, everyone can enjoy a walk through the country park all year round, as well as a through a network of natural routes. The country park is also equipped with a large lake, providing a location for water sports such as sailing, rowing and windsurfing. It is situated in a fine area of outstanding natural beauty, allowing everyone to experience the Essex countryside.
