With its rich history, excellent transport links and diverse community, Barking has something for everyone. Locals love its green spaces such as Barking Park with its 30 hectares of outdoor space and boating lake.

Places of interest and leisure include Eastbury Manor House, St Margaret of Antioch Church, Barking Abbey and The Broadway Theatre. Independent shops, bars and restaurants are plentiful. Interesting fact; 1966 England captain Bobby More was born in Barking!

1930s Housing stock is plentiful as is ex local authority houses and flats. The Barking Riverside development offers a wide choice of modern purpose apartments and houses. There is plenty of choice when it comes to schooling, with numerous state-run primary and secondary schools within the local area.

  • Barking Station – Barking Station is served by the London Underground’s Hammersmith and City Line, the District Line and the London Overground. This provides locals with an easy commute into Central London, as well as surrounding areas in East London and Essex
  • Upney Station – A London Underground station located on Upney Lane in Barking, East London. It is on the District Line between Barking station (to the west) and Becontree station (to the east).
  • Bus Routes – Several bus routes serve the area, providing links to local neighbourhoods, shopping centres and hospitals. Many of these bus services are operated by Transport for London and run 24 hours a day.
  • Road Links – In addition, Barking is located close to major roads including the A13 and the North Circular Road (A406), both of which provide easy access to central London and the wider motorway network.
  • London City Airport – London City Airport is approximately 5 miles (8 km) east of Barking. It primarily serves business travellers and short haul flights to European destinations and New York City. It is accessible via public transport, including the Docklands Light Railway and local buses, as well as by car or taxi.

  • Barking Park – a public park covering 30 hectares to the northeast of Barking town centre. It was opened as the Recreation Ground in 1898 and is now the oldest public park in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. The park features a 910 meter (2,990 ft) long boating lake on the north side of the park. Barking Park lies north of Longbridge Road and south of the neighbourhood of Loxford, with the northern boundary of the park along Loxford Water.
  • Mayesbrook Park – Mayesbrook Park offers a welcoming and serene environment for individuals, families and community groups to enjoy outdoor activities, connect with nature and engage in recreational pursuits. Spanning over 43 hectares, the park provides ample green space for visitors to enjoy
  • Loxford Park – A large park that has a lot of mature trees and shrubs that provide a great habitat for wildlife and birds. It benefits from an old sunken garden, created around 1940, that is popular with park users wishing to rest from walking and is also popular with skaters. The park also has various recreational facilities, including playing fields and a cherry lined avenue leading towards tennis courts and a bowling green with roses around the border.
  • Greatfields Park – Being a Green Flag Award park, there are quiet areas within ornamental gardens with opportunities for viewing wildlife and wild flowers. The park also has a playground and toilets.

  • Wood Oven – As the name would suggest, here you will find a charcoal grill that produces freshly grilled meat and fish dishes. Customers can see their meal being cooked during each visit. They also offer stone baked pizzas cooked fresh in their custom made wood oven.
  • Cristina’s Steakhouse – Opened in 2012 in the town of Barking, Cristina’s has years of history. Known for their emphasis on high quality steaks and grilled meats, the restaurant offers a variety of steak cuts, including ribeye, sirloin, fillet and T-bone, prepared to customers’ preferred cooking styles, such as rare, medium or well done. Many people come from afar just for a bite of their famous steaks which has now made the restaurant famous throughout the East End of London and developed a following.
  • MyLahore – Upon entering, you are greeted by a vibrant and lively atmosphere. Specialising in authentic Pakistani and Indian dishes, prepared with traditional recipes and flavors, Mylahore’s menu offers a wide range of options, including mouthwatering curries, aromatic biryanis, flavorful kebabs and tandoori specialties. The dishes are crafted with a careful blend of spices, herbs and fresh ingredients to deliver an authentic taste experience.
  • The Boathouse Café and Bar – An easygoing destination with river views, specialising in artisan cocktails, craft beer & paninis.

  • Barking Abbey – A historic site located in Barking, it was originally founded as a nunnery in the 7th century and later became an influential abbey. Today, the remains of the abbey serve as a reminder of its rich history and cultural significance.
  • The Broadway Theatre – A renowned performing arts venue offering a diverse range of entertainment, including live theatre productions, musical performances, comedy shows and cultural events. The building formed part of the Barking Town Hall complex and was completed in 1961. It was remodeled as an arts centre in 2006. It currently has an auditorium with a seated capacity of 341.
  • Eastbury Manor House – a historic Tudor mansion known for its impressive architecture and well preserved interiors. Eastbury Manor House offers visitors a glimpse into the past, showcasing Tudor era design elements and providing insights into the lives of the people who once inhabited the house. The manor house is open to the public, allowing visitors to explore its rooms, gardens and learn about its rich history through exhibitions and guided tours.
  • St Margaret of Antioch Church – A historic place, dating back to medieval times and is dedicated to St. Margaret of Antioch. It features architectural elements from different periods, including Norman, Gothic and Victorian styles. St. Margaret of Antioch Church serves as a spiritual and community center, hosting religious services, ceremonies and community events. The church holds historical significance and offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate its architectural beauty and heritage.
